Welcome to cheap workouts

RE: Videos and tips for cheap workouts!

Hi!

My name is John Davin

I am a founding member of this site and a moderator for the group.

My goals are to find ways to become more active, more fit, healthier and happier. No matter where I am, what I am doing or what equipment I do or do not have access to to keep me that way. Then I want to help others do the same because I always appreciate it when others share their excitement, drive and knowledge with me.

A bit of background on John Davin. I have struggled with my weight at different times in my life. I think part of the reason is in the past, I was always looking for someone to motivate me or the latest, greatest exercise machine that would change my weight. But looking back, the times I was the fittest is when I just exercised without a membership at the Y or the latest greatest exercise machine. There are no miracle memberships or exercising apparatus that will make us fit. Period!

I know this to be true because some of the times I have been tremendously fit was at times that I did not have any special equipment or memberships. Memberhips and special exercise machines are great, but I also know I can get exercise by walking the dog, running outside, exercising to video tapes, doing push-ups, riding my inexpensive Aerodyne clone or I can even use a chair for many of my exercises. There are just so many to have cheap (inexpensive) workouts, if you really want to work out.

I know it can be done, and because you are here, I think you want to do it too!

It’s all a matter of changing the way we think. For example, do you enjoy walking or running? We can enjoy exercising! We will probably be more succesfful in our efforts to be in shape if we just decide it is fun to walk or run, and can do it just because it is fun. Or we can go bicycling just to be enjoying the countryside. Or we can quickly jump up and start stretching for 20 minutes just because it feels good. All with the benefits of getting exercise and feeling and looking better, without expensive workout equipment.

You can see most of the exercise and sports I like to do are outside activities. I also like to play basketball or raquetball or lift weights inside, but I’d always rather be outside in the fresh air, getting a bit of sunlight. All activities are good of course, but perhaps you are like me, in that you want to work out in the fresh air or on your own time without traveling to a work out gym.

I’ve also found out that I can work out ANYWHERE! Sometimes I have heard myself and others coming up with every reason in the book not to exercise.

I don’t have a treadmill or stepper.
I don’t have a thighbuster, or thigh master or whatever.
(Insert hundreds of exercise equipment we see advertised on TV)
I can’t afford to join a gym.
The gym is too far away.
It’s raining a bit.

I am telling you that you can work out and have fun at it anywere, anytime, and we are going to work on showing you ways that you can get a good work out anytime, anywhere.

We’ll be telling you about these work out routines and developing them as we go. Hopefully from the tips that our readers share about how they work out without going to the gym. That means you. :)

I also include dozens of videos for dozens of types of videos of how other people work out, for motivation and direction.

Now, let’s talk about my goals and what I want to do, and then you be thinking about yourself and your goals, and how we can

help each other.

Specific Goals:

Surprises:

How much writing down my goals here is helping me visualize my goals and how I will achieve them.

Please use my goals here as your template for your own personal goals. No need to post them here, but please do take the time to measure your body (I had not done this for years and it really helps you have a measureable goal) and write down the stats and your goals so you know exactly what they are.

I also suggest taking pictures of yourself with and without your shirt and pants so you see what others see. Then remember to use it for before and after pictures and for motivation. Don’t let it discourage you however… we are on a journey and we have

to start somewhere. We also have to realize there may be times when we stop or even go backwards, but the fact that we are trying and keep starting again tends to make me believe we will all get there together, hopefully sooner than later. But never, ever give up.

Best regards,
John Davin
